My buddy in Denver swore by his cheap rain jacket
He said I was dumb for spending $200 on a Gore-Tex shell and after getting caught in a 3 hour downpour on a mountain bike ride last spring, his cheap jacket was soaked through in 20 minutes while mine kept me bone dry - who else has had a budget gear fail like this at the worst possible time?

Figure 20 minutes sounds like a lot for a cheap jacket that got soaked.

... and that's the thing, you're probably right. I spent 15 minutes trying to dry my "water resistant" hoodie from the mall with a hair dryer once, only to realize it was literally just a regular jacket with a label stuck on it.

Grabbed my old raincoat from the back of the closet (the one that actually works) and never looked back. Sometimes you just gotta cut your losses and let the hoodie be a hoodie.
