Blizzard ruined my Denver trip, GPS routed us to a diner that saved it
My flight got canceled 20 minutes before boarding, so my buddy and I rented a car and drove instead. We hit whiteout conditions near Fort Morgan and pulled into some random truck stop diner, best chicken fried steak I've ever had. Has anyone else had a canceled plan turn into a better memory than the original itinerary?

Gotta disagree with the whole "better memory" thing, honestly. A diner chicken fried steak is great, sure, but it's not why you went to Denver. You went for the mountains, the city, the actual trip you planned and paid for. A whiteout detour is just damage control, like saying the flat tire was the best part of the drive because you saw a cool gas station. The original plan was the point, and it got taken from you without any say. I'd trade that steak for the boarding pass back in a second, no question. It's okay to admit the backup plan was decent, but let's not pretend it beats what you actually wanted.

So the backup plan being decent automatically makes it better than what you lost? That's like saying a good burger makes up for missing your best friend's wedding because the reception had a better menu.
The real test is simple: if you had a time machine and could go back to that moment, would you pick the whiteout detour or the original trip? You already said you'd trade the steak for the boarding pass, so we agree on that.
But then why frame it as "better memory" when it's really just survival? Enjoying a meal after getting screwed over doesn't erase what got taken, it just means you're not miserable on top of it.
