Appreciation post: my brother's wedding got rained out and we had a backyard bbq instead
They had this whole outdoor ceremony planned at a park in Columbus but the sky opened up 30 minutes before. My dad just fired up the grill in my mom's backyard and we ate burgers in the garage with napkins as plates. Honestly the best wedding I've been to because nobody was stressed about timing or seating. Has anyone else had a canceled plan turn into something way better than the original?

Oh man, I gotta disagree hard here. A planned backyard cookout is fun and all but a rainout means all that effort and money for the venue, dress, centerpieces down the drain. Part of the magic of a wedding is the formal ceremony and seeing everything come together as planned, not just eating burgers off napkins because the universe decided to poop on the day.

Is a wedding really ruined just cause it rains though? People act like the sky opening up is the end of the world. @carter.casey, you're acting like a little drizzle cancels the whole party - tents exist, cheap ones. The money spent on a stuffy venue and a fancy dress doesn't matter if nobody's having fun anyway. Burgers off napkins sounds way more memorable than some stiff ceremony where everyone's worried about their shoes.

You know what, I used to totally be on the other side of this argument but you actually made me rethink it. A rainy wedding where everyone just rolls with it and has fun sounds way more real than some perfect photo op where nobody relaxes. The best parties I've been to were the ones that went off script, not the ones where everything went according to plan.
