Almost skipped a demo from a tiny Halifax payments startup because the landing page looked like a template, and now I feel dumb
A buddy who works at a credit union in Halifax kept pushing me to sit in on a demo from this 6 person payments startup he found, and I almost bailed because their site looked like a free template with stock photos. But the founder walked through how they handle interac e-transfer reconciliation for small merchants, and every question I threw at them got a straight answer with actual numbers, not buzzwords. What sold me was when he pulled up a live dashboard showing a real client in Moncton cutting their manual bookkeeping from 9 hours a week down to about 40 minutes. I still think half the fintech founders out there are just selling slides, so how do you all screen the real ones from the hype before you give up an hour of your day?
