That one old timer at Big Bend who fixed my stove with a paperclip

Back in 2019 I was camped at Rio Grande Village and my cheap stove valve just froze up on day two. An older guy from the next site walked over, didn't say much, just pulled a paperclip and a tiny wrench from his pocket. He bent the clip into a little pin, tapped the valve once, and it worked perfect for the rest of the trip. I asked him how he knew that trick and he said, 'Son, I've fixed more gear with junk than with parts.' I still carry a paperclip in my repair kit because of that interaction. Has anyone else had a stranger's fix that beat every product review you've read?

Isn't that the best thing about meeting folks who've actually lived a little? I had a guy at a trailhead fix my broken zipper with a safety pin and some duct tape, and it held up for two whole seasons.
