That campground in Utah had the quietest tent spots I've ever used
I was up at Sand Hollow State Park last month and noticed almost everyone was using those heavy duty canvas wall tents instead of the usual nylon domes. The ranger said it's because the wind rips through there something fierce, and canvas really muffles the noise. Has anyone else switched to canvas for windy spots or is that just a Utah thing?

Canvas tents are actually heavier and trap more heat than nylon ones for wind protection.

Honestly, "trap more heat" is a pretty funny way to describe what most people call "being warm in a tent." Like oh no, the tent is doing its job too well, how terrible. Ngl, it sounds like you're arguing that a down jacket is bad because it keeps you from freezing to death. Tbh if I'm trying to block wind and stay cozy, I'll take the heat trapping over shivering inside a nylon bag all night. You make it sound like a bug, but for anyone who's had their tent flap like a sail in a 40mph gust, that canvas is a feature not a flaw.

You said canvas traps more heat, but that's actually a selling point for a lot of people, not a downside. In colder weather, that extra weight is worth it because nylon lets the cold air cut right through. Plus, canvas is way more durable in high winds - nylon can flap and tear if you're caught in a real storm. The weight is a trade-off, sure, but you're getting a tent that lasts decades and handles weather nylon just can't.
