Warning: my old coax stripper finally gave out on a job in Tempe yesterday
I was finishing a wall fish in a two story house when the blade just snapped clean off. It was a Klein VDV110-107, and I've had it for maybe eight years. I had to finish the term with my pocket knife, which was a real pain. Has anyone got a good replacement they like that can take a beating?
Remembered stripping a whole floor of quad shield with a pair of rusty scissors once because the site super lost the tool bag. My hands were cramping up for two days after that, felt like I was trying to open a million little plastic clamshells with my bare hands. The worst part was the little metal strands getting everywhere, like glitter but it stabs you. Never did find that bag, either.
Man, that's rough. I've been there with a tool giving out at the worst time. For a real workhorse, I switched to the Ideal StripMaster a few years back. The thing is built like a tank and the blades are easy to swap. It just feels solid in your hand for a full day of terminations. My old one lasted forever until I lost it on a site.
