That safety bulletin from Charter about ladder angles, take a look
Was going through some old paperwork and found a safety bulletin from Charter about ladder setup, the one that says a 4:1 ratio minimum. I've been doing this for 11 years around Columbus and always just eyeballed it. Now I'm double checking every single ladder I set, even on quick jobs. Anyone else run into this and change how they work?

Leave the math out of it for a second. I've set ladders for over a decade and never once pulled out a tape measure to check the angle. That 4:1 rule is a good starting point for rookies, but after a while your eye just knows what feels right, you know? I get why they put it in writing, but I'm not about to slow down every job to measure something I can see is fine. If it looks steep or leans back too much, I fix it, plain and simple. The bulletin doesn't change how I work, it just makes me second-guess stuff I already know is solid.
