That moment I realized I'd been stripping coax cable with the wrong tool for 4 years

An old-timer at a job site in Nashville laughed his butt off when he saw me using lineman's pliers instead of a proper coax stripper, and suddenly all those nicked center conductors made sense - any of you guys ever have a tool revelation that made you feel like a total newbie?

Wait, you were using lineman's pliers on coax for four years? That's rough buddy. I totally get it though. I spent way too long using a cheap utility knife to strip Romex before someone handed me a proper cable ripper. The difference was night and day, and I felt like such an idiot for not switching sooner. It's wild how much easier the right tool makes a simple job. You probably saved yourself a lot of headaches now that you know better.

Feeling your pain on that one. I did something similar with a drywall saw for years, just hacking away at cutouts, until a buddy showed me a proper jab saw. The clean edges and the time it saved me made me wonder how I ever managed before. It's one of those things where you don't know what you're missing until you actually try it.

Why is everyone acting like cheap tools can't get the job done?
