Spent $250 on a thermal camera for finding wall studs and wires, best money ever

I was on a job in a 100 year old house last month, trying to fish a line through a plaster wall. I kept hitting something solid and couldn't figure out the framing. I pulled out this little thermal camera I bought, scanned the wall, and it clearly showed me every stud and a hot water pipe I had no idea was there. It saved me at least two hours of guessing and drilling extra holes. Has anyone else found a tool that paid for itself that fast?

Wow, I read about those cameras spotting hidden moisture too, right?

Seriously, it's wild! I always thought those thermal cameras were just for like, finding heat leaks in your house. But seeing them actually show a damp patch inside a wall that looked totally fine from the outside? That completely changed my mind. It proves the problem is way bigger than you can see. Now I get why professionals use them, it stops you from just fixing a surface stain and missing the real mess.

Totally get what you mean, it's like having X-ray vision. Reminds me of when my neighbor had a mystery smell, @nora110, and a guy with one of those cams found a whole wet spot behind her fridge from a tiny leak. She was just cleaning the floor over and over. Shows you how much we miss with just our eyes. Makes you wonder what else is hiding in plain sight.
