My old foreman's 'run it hot' tip wrecked a modem port today
Dave from my last crew swore that pushing 10 dB over spec into the tap fixed weak signal issues, so I tried it on a stubborn install in Toledo this morning. The modem took the surge and the port fried right in front of the customer, had to swap the whole unit and eat an extra hour. Has anyone else gotten told to overdrive the line and actually seen it work, or is that just a recipe for blowing gear? lmao
Used to buy into that hot signal trick too, figured a little extra push couldn't hurt. Then I watched a guy blow two amps in a week chasing the same thing. That extra dB just cooks your gear, it doesn't fix the real problem.
