Found a hidden wasp nest behind a wall plate in Alexandria last Friday

I was doing a standard cable run in an old house near Alexandria and pulled off a wall plate to find a whole wasp nest stuffed behind it. They weren't happy when I moved the plate. I had to come back the next day with a can of spray and a shop vac. Has anyone else run into nests or critters inside walls?

Oh man, that's a nightmare waiting to happen. I bet when you popped that plate off it was like opening a clown car full of angry bees with no punchline. Did you at least get some satisfaction vacuuming them up after spraying? I figure that's the closest we get to frontier justice in this line of work. How long did it take to clean all the dead ones out?

I learned that lesson the hard way helping my uncle clean out a rental property. He sprayed everything and we came back three days later to find a colony had moved into the HVAC system. The smell of dead roaches in that furnace filter was something I still can't unsmell. Did you end up finding any stragglers hiding in the ceiling tiles or something crazy like that?

Actually gonna push back on that @ericj45. The satisfaction factor is way overrated. Sure it feels good in the moment spraying them, but then you're left with a mess that takes forever to clean. Dead bugs stuck in every crevice, dust and debris mixing with the poison, and you better hope you got every last one or they just come back. Vacuuming them up is worse than the original job because now you've got a machine full of dead roaches that'll stink up your garage. Spraying just masks the problem temporarily anyway. Next time you'll probably find a nest behind a different wall that migrated over before you even sealed the first spot. It's a losing battle most times.

Ngl @ericj45 vacuuming them is worse than the spray, just trading one mess for another.
