Forked out $350 for a Klein VDV Scout Pro tester and it paid for itself in a week

I finally got tired of chasing bad cables with a cheap toner and picked up a real tester. Last Tuesday I found a bad keystone in a 48 port patch panel in under 10 minutes at a job site near the old mill building downtown. Has anyone else had a tool like that just make your day easier right out of the box?

Scored a Fluke Networks LinkIQ last year after fighting with intermittent drops for months and it basically paid for itself on the first job. That Klein VDV Scout is solid for basic testing but the distance-to-fault feature on the Fluke saved me from having to rerun a 50 foot cable that had a nick in the jacket near the ceiling. Once you get used to that kind of precision, going back to a tone and probe feels like you're working blind. Those little time savers add up fast when you're billing by the job instead of by the hour.

Oh, I don't know about that. I've been doing this long enough that a good tone and probe still feels like an extension of my hand, and I can pinpoint most faults just as fast without dropping a couple grand on a tester that does the thinking for me.
