Pro tip: my dado stack threw a tooth through the shop last Tuesday, now I'm second guessing stacked vs wobble
Was cutting 3/4 ply for a bank of drawers last Tuesday morning and heard a ping, looked down, and there's a carbide tooth sitting on the floor about 4 feet from the saw. The stacked dado had maybe 30 hours on it since I bought it in March at the woodworking show in Columbus. I shut everything down, pulled the stack, and sure enough one tooth was gone and the next one was cracked. Nobody got hurt and the blade guard ate most of it, but now I'm sitting here wondering if I did something wrong or if this is just what happens with cheap stacked sets. Part of me says stacked is still the way to go for clean bottoms, the other part says a wobble dado would've never done this because there's one solid piece of steel. I checked runout on the arbor and it looked fine, so maybe it was just a bad brazing job. Any of you had a tooth let go on a stacked set? Did you figure out what caused it or just swap brands and move on?
