A client in Tacoma asked me to build a cabinet around her 1970s stereo console.

She said, 'I don't want it hidden, I want it framed like a piece of art.' I spent two weeks designing a walnut case with a sliding glass door that shows it off. How do you all handle integrating old electronics into new furniture?

I mean, my dad was the king of that. He built this whole shelf unit around his old reel-to-reel player, like a shrine. It had these little spotlights and everything. Kind of funny, but it did look pretty cool in his den. Made it feel important, you know?

My aunt still has her old console TV built right into the living room wall.

Respect that kind of commitment to a design choice. It shows a real sense of permanence we don't see much anymore. Honestly, that built-in look has a cool, retro charm that flat screens just can't match.
