TIL I was wrong about cheap scales, my $18 one from a pawn shop reads dead on
I always told new guys to save up for a real digital scale, then last month I checked my $18 pawn shop find against a 500 gram test weight at a buddy's place in Reno and it was off by half a gram. My $140 name brand one was off by 1.2 grams, so now I use the cheap one for spice mixes and small cuts. Cost me less than a nice lunch and it has done more for my consistency than the fancy one did. Anyone else have a cheap tool that outdid the expensive one?
I bought a $200 torque wrench and a $30 one from Harbor Freight to compare, and the cheap one was closer to spec when my buddy checked both at his shop in Sac. My expensive wrench is now a very nice paperweight that I dust off twice a year to feel good about myself. The $30 one lives in my truck and gets used every week without any drama.
