Old school paper contracts vs. digital signing, the differences are huge

Back in 2013 I ran a small print shop in Austin and every deal meant printing out 3 copies, driving to the client, waiting for initials, and hoping I didn't lose the wet ink original. Now I use a $20/month e-sign service and it cut my turnaround from 4 days to about 4 hours. The real eye opener came when a client tried to back out of a job last year and claimed they never signed anything, but the audit trail with timestamps and IP addresses shut that down in one email. Paper felt more official but it was fragile, one coffee spill or misplaced folder and you had nothing. Digital is faster but you also need to read the terms on data retention, some services delete your records after 6 months unless you pay extra. Has anyone else dealt with clients who still insist on physical signatures for liability reasons?

Kinda sounds like you're overthinking it. A client trying to back out is rare, and the audit trail is just a log, not a magic bullet. Anyone can claim their cousin clicked the link or that the timestamp is off. Paper had its problems, sure, but at least a physical signature is a physical thing. Digital just trades one set of headaches for another, and now you gotta worry about which subscription tier your records are locked behind.
