My buddy the accountant told me to ignore a sales tax form and now I owe $900

So my friend Dave who does taxes for small shops said I didn't need to file that quarterly sales tax form since I'm just a one-person gig. That was 8 months ago. Just got a letter from the state saying I owe $900 with penalties. Guess who's not my friend anymore? Has anyone else gotten bad advice from someone you trusted?

That "just ignore it" advice cost me $650 last year. I called the state and asked about a payment plan, which cut my monthly stress in half.
