Filed my LLC paperwork in Austin without an EIN first, and the $300 fee came back to bite me
I set up my LLC two months ago with what I thought was the simple path: pay the state fee, get the certificate, figure out the tax stuff later. Turns out the bank would not open a business account without my EIN, so I sat on a frozen company for 11 days while the IRS processed a faxed application. I also paid a registered agent service $125 a year because I did not want my home address on file, which I guess is fine but I did not shop around at all. The lesson I actually got was to get the EIN before I file anything, it is free and takes like 15 minutes online. Now I am stuck deciding if I should pay a lawyer $400 to clean up my operating agreement or just use a template. Anyone here skip the EIN and regret it, or am I the only one who did this backwards?
