Saw my old college roommate's bujo setup and it made me rethink everything

I was at a coffee shop last Sunday and bumped into my roommate from sophomore year. She showed me her bullet journal and she uses like 3 different colored pens and a weekly spread that's basically just a list. No washi tape, no doodles, no stickers. She told me she spends maybe 5 minutes a day on it. That hit different because I've been spending like 30 minutes each night decorating my pages and honestly I think I'm missing the whole point of tracking stuff. Has anyone else cut way back on the fancy stuff and still felt like their journal works?

Does your roommate's journal actually track everything she needs, or is there some stuff she just lets slide? I went through a similar change a few years back. Used to color code everything and buy new markers every month. Then I realized I was spending more time making it look good than actually using it. Now I just use a black pen and a basic layout. Some days I write two sentences. Some days nothing at all. The journal still works fine for me because the point was always to keep track of things, not to make art. The fancy stuff looks great online but it can trick you into thinking the journal has to be perfect before it can be useful. If your 5 minute method keeps you consistent, that's probably worth more than the 30 minute setup that burns you out.

So are you gonna actually try her minimalist method or just think about it?

Wait are you still color coding or did you ditch that yet?
