I laughed at the idea of a monthly cover page for a year until my sister showed me hers and I caved

For the longest time I thought monthly cover pages were just a waste of space and time (like coloring inside lines for adults). But then my sister showed me her October spread last fall with a little pumpkin sketch and simple border, and I realized it actually helped her flip to the right month faster. I tried a cheap calligraphy pen and spent 20 minutes on a November leaf page, and now I look forward to setting up each month. Has anyone else gone from hating cover pages to secretly loving them?

My sister converted me too back in 2017 when she drew a stupid little snowflake on her December page and it took me three minutes to find January in my old notebook. The thing nobody talks about is how cover pages act like bookmarks for your brain instead of just decoration. I keep mine super basic now - like a single word and a small doodle that matches the month's vibe. It saves me from flipping through every page to find where March starts. I still skip months when I'm busy though, which defeats the whole purpose but whatever.

Oh man, I feel that brain-bookmark thing so hard. Last year I spent a solid ten minutes hunting for July because I used the same neutral colored marker for three months in a row.

The snowflake thing is exactly right. I do the same with tiny seasonal icons and it's crazy how fast my eyes find them compared to reading dates. Even a single leaf for October or a little flame for July works better than any tab system I tried. But yeah, skipping months kills it. I had three blank months in a row once and spent ten minutes flipping back and forth like an idiot trying to figure out where September was. The brain just gives up when there's nothing visual to lock onto. Now I force myself to at least put a dot or a squiggle on the corner of the first page even if I don't use the month.
