Found my first bullet journal from 2017 under the bed this morning
I was cleaning out my spare room and stumbled across a Moleskine from my first try at bullet journaling back in 2017. Back then I had like 15 different trackers and color coded doodles but now my current journal is just a few lines of tasks and notes per day. Does anyone else feel like their style has simplified a ton over the years or am I just getting lazy lol

The thing about "tracker for how well I was tracking things" hit way too close to home man. I had a whole page dedicated to whether I filled out my habit tracker, and another page for my mood tracker where I'd color in each day with a specific shade based on my emotions. Now I just write "felt good today" or "bad day" in the margin if I remember. The funny thing is my life didn't actually get less complicated, I just stopped trying to turn my notebook into some kind of art project. The loose paper thing you mentioned really works because if you lose it you can just grab another sheet and start over without crying over wasted washi tape.

Pretty sure my 2017 setup had a tracker for how well I was tracking things. It was basically a full time hobby with all those washi tapes and color coded sections. Now I use a ballpoint pen on loose notebook paper half the time because I lost my fancy journal somewhere in the house. My current system is basically "write it down if you remember to and hope for the best." You're not getting lazy, you just finally realized that spending an hour making pretty charts doesn't actually get your laundry done.

Switched to your exact same system a few years ago after realizing I was spending more time decorating my planner than actually planning anything. The ballpoint pen on loose paper method actually works better for me because there's zero pressure to make it look nice. I keep a stack of plain printer paper next to my bed and just brain dump everything before I forget it. Started using just a single highlighter to mark urgent items and that's it. Have you found that the simpler system actually helps you remember things better since there's less to mess with?
