Warning: my sister tore apart my grocery budget on Thanksgiving and she was right
She grabbed my receipt off the counter in Akron and started reading it out loud. $214 for two people for one week. She asked why I buy shredded cheese at $4.99 a bag when block cheese is $2.50 and takes 30 seconds to grate. Then she pointed at the four packs of pre-cut apple slices. I was paying $6 for something that costs $2 to do myself.
That was 5 months ago. I switched to block cheese and a $12 grater. Apples get cut on Sunday while I watch TV. My weekly total is down to $138 and I have not missed the pre-cut stuff once. The shredded cheese thing still bugs me because it was so obvious.
What else am I overpaying for without thinking about it? I feel like there is more of this I am blind to.
The shredded cheese thing got me too, took me way too long to figure that one out. Same deal with bagged salad, you're paying $4 for leaves that go bad in two days when a head of romaine is like $1.50. And check your phone bill, I was paying for insurance on a phone I already replaced lol.
