Question about whether budgeting too hard ever backfires on you
I had a moment last Tuesday where I was at the grocery store in Arlington and my card got declined on a $47 purchase. I felt so proud of my strict budget that month, but I forgot I put a $35 hold on gas that morning. So I stood there with a full cart of chicken and veggies, had to call my partner to come pay, and the cashier gave me that pity look. The whole thing got me thinking: does being super tight with every dollar sometimes mess up the flow? Like, maybe we need a little flex room so we don't end up embarrassed or hungry. On the other hand, I saved $120 that week by sticking to my limits. Which side do you lean on when this happens to you?

Yeah I used to think strict was the way but this changed my mind. Gotta leave some breathing room.

@josephmartin never considered how keeping things loose actually builds more trust than strict rules ever do.
