Got talked into a $400 fridge water line install 3 years ago
My old house had that basic plastic line running to the fridge that always kinked. The appliance guy at Lowe's in Bellevue said I needed a copper line with a shutoff valve or I'd risk a flood. I balked at the price back then but figured he knew his stuff. Three years later I'm still in that same house and the line has never given me one problem. Meanwhile my neighbor saved 80 bucks doing it himself with some braided hose from Amazon. His kitchen floor got replaced last spring after a slow leak wrecked the laminate. That 400 bucks feels like the best money I never have to think about again. Anyone else ever get pressured into an upgrade that actually paid off?

My cousin in Renton did his own fridge line with some cheap flex hose from Home Depot and it burst at 2am six months later. $3,200 in water damage to his subfloor and cabinets. His insurance deductible was $1,000 and they dropped him after that claim. Meanwhile my $400 install has been flawless since day one. Sometimes paying the professional tax is just buying peace of mind and avoiding a headache that costs way more later.

Damn, that story kinda just convinced me to call my plumber instead.
