Dishwasher kicked the bucket right after I paid off my credit card
Last Tuesday morning I woke up to a pool of water on the kitchen floor from my 8-year-old dishwasher. The drain pump just gave out with no warning (and of course it happened the day after I finally zeroed out my Visa bill). I managed to find a used replacement pump on Facebook Marketplace for $25 from a guy in Portland. Took me about 3 hours to swap it out watching YouTube videos on my phone. Has anyone else had a major appliance fail right when you thought you were ahead on money?

And here I thought paying off debt was supposed to be the start of smooth sailing, not the universe's cue to break things. At least @kaih36 is out there reminding us that some fixes are way easier than others, though I bet his ice maker never flooded his kitchen floor at 6 AM.

Appreciate the kind words @dianahayes, but I think a fridge ice maker is a little different than a dishwasher pump - ice makers are usually just a frozen line or a bad solenoid, so swapping parts on those is way simpler. Still, glad that YouTube fix worked out for you.

Oh man, doesn't that just figure? I had the exact same thing happen with my washing machine last spring. I finally paid off my car loan and then bam, the spin cycle sounded like a helicopter landing in my laundry room. It's like the universe waits for that moment. Props to you for finding that used pump though, I would have probably just panicked and called a repair guy. That YouTube method is a lifesaver for sure, saved me a ton of money on my fridge ice maker last year. Hope the new pump holds up for you.
