A weird old chimney in a Portland house took me three days to figure out

The flue was built with a hidden offset that didn't show up on any of the drawings, so my whole layout was wrong. I spent about 24 hours total just measuring and re-measuring before I found the right angle to tie the new brickwork into it. Has anyone else run into a sneaky design like that in an old chimney?

Man, that sounds like a total nightmare. Honestly, old houses are full of those "what were they thinking" moments. I found a whole extra layer of bricks hidden behind plaster in my place that messed up a vent. It's like they built stuff just to mess with future owners.

My last house had a door that opened into a brick wall.

Had a door like that too, just framed it in and put up drywall. What did you end up doing with yours?
