The 90 year old ginkgo by the post office in my town has me counting branches
I walked past the old post office in Frederick last Saturday and stopped dead at this huge ginkgo that I somehow never noticed in 6 years of living here. Turns out it's roughly 90 years old, and the fan shaped leaves had all gone gold at once, dropping in this perfect ring right around the trunk. Does anyone know why ginkgos seem to dump their leaves in one big drop instead of slowly like my maples do?
Six years of walking past it and you never looked up once? That makes me feel better about the three years I spent ignoring a whole cherry tree in my own backyard. Ginkgos drop all at once because the whole tree basically decides on the same day, so you get that gold carpet. My maples must be the slow kids who never got the memo.
