Finally figured out my monstera was getting too much direct light after 2 years

I had this big monstera in my south-facing window in Portland for two whole years and it kept getting these yellow patches on the leaves. My neighbor who runs a small greenhouse stopped by last week and pointed out that the afternoon sun was actually scorching the leaves through the glass. I moved it to a north window four days ago and already the new growth looks way darker and healthier. Has anyone else had a plant that looked fine but was secretly getting sunburned in the wrong spot?

I used to think bright light was always the answer for indoor plants until I had a fiddle leaf fig lose half its leaves from what I thought was underwatering. Turned out it was getting blasted by late afternoon sun through a west window. Moved it to an east window and it perked up in like two weeks. Now I watch for that washed out look on leaves instead of assuming more sun = happier plant.

Did you check if the window glass had any UV coating?
