Went to the library downtown and realized how many modern hardcovers have glued spines under the dust jackets.

Oh, the glued spines. It's the book's way of telling you it doesn't plan on being a lifelong friend. They make them to be read once, look nice on a shelf, and then fall apart. Real classy.
