That week in October when my old bone folder finally gave out

It was a Tuesday and I was working on a leather journal for a client in Denver, trying to get a crisp fold on some thick handmade paper. The bone folder I'd had since my first class in 2002 just snapped clean in half at the tip. I had to finish the signature with my fingernail, which was a mess. It felt like losing a part of my hand. What's your go-to replacement when a trusted tool finally quits?

Man, that's the worst. My old putty knife from my first apartment snapped last year and I felt the same way. Had to use a butter knife for a week until I found a decent replacement.

Feel for you, that's a real gut punch. My favorite kitchen knife chipped last month and I've been using a steak knife like some kind of barbarian. At least brians91's butter knife had a flat edge, this thing can't even cut a tomato. A good tool breaking feels like a tiny betrayal, and the replacement is never the same.

Actually a chipped knife can be sharpened back to life pretty easy. Might be cheaper than replacing it if you like the handle.
