Spotting a shift towards bright colors in modern bindings

Lately, I've seen a lot of book projects online with really vibrant cover papers. It looks cool, but I'm curious if this is just a fad or a lasting change. Do you think clients are asking for more color now?

Yeah, I've been noticing that everywhere online too (Instagram is full of it). What's funny is I just had a client specifically ask for a "happy yellow" for her poetry collection, which she said felt more modern to her than the usual dark blues or greens. So from my little corner, it seems like a real shift in what people want to express, not just a visual trend. That bright color made the book feel approachable, which was her whole goal. It makes sense after so many years of minimalist and muted covers, you know? People might just be ready for some joy on their shelves.

My local library did a whole display on "joyful reads" last month, and every cover was bursting with color. It's spilling over into other stuff too, like packaging and even app icons getting brighter. Feels like a whole mood shift after so much gray and beige everywhere, like we're all tired of feeling serious. I'm here for it, bring on the yellow and orange and all the happy shades. It's about time design caught up with the need for a little optimism, you know?

Totally get what @claire_gibson means about that shift. I grabbed a bright pink book last week just for the cover, and it actually got me to read more. Felt like a little treat instead of homework.
