My family bible repair under a deadline shifted my thinking
Most folks say you should always hand stitch for a repair that lasts. I had to fix my family's old bible before a reunion this weekend. I used a strong adhesive and clamp method to save time. It was done in a few hours and looks solid. I know it won't hold like sewing, but it met the need right now. Maybe it's just me, but waiting weeks for a perfect bind isn't always practical. Sometimes a fast fix that works is better than no fix at all.

You glued a family bible together? Adhesive can permanently stain and weaken those delicate pages over time. Rushing such a precious item for a reunion seems like a huge risk to take.

See this everywhere lol, people rushing to fix stuff for a big moment without thinking it through. It's like when you use tape on an old photo just to get it in a frame for a party, but then it ruins it forever. The want to have things feel whole and right for a special day is huge, but it can lead to choices you can't take back. We get so focused on the good feeling we'll have now that we mess up the thing that's supposed to last. That bible deserved more time, even if it meant showing it with loose pages this time.

Isn't it better to have it kinda fixed than falling apart? I mean, if pages are already loose, glue might stop them from getting lost. Like, my grandma's bible had pages that would just slide out if you touched it. Sure, glue can stain, but if you're careful, it holds things together for now. Idk, maybe it's worth the risk for a reunion where everyone can see it. Rushing isn't great, but sometimes you gotta work with what you have.

Yeah like @michael_jenkins39 says glue can be bad, but I get the deadline thing. I had my grandpa's old cookbook falling apart right before a big dinner. I used those thin glue strips made for paper, clamped it overnight, and it's been fine for like three years now. I mean it's not the same as a bible, but sometimes a quick fix does last way longer than you think it will. You just have to be really careful with how much you use.
