Had a flange gasket blowout on a 500 psi steam line last Tuesday
We were doing a pressure test on a new boiler install at the Midtown plant. The gasket on the main steam outlet flange failed at about 450 psi, sounded like a cannon going off. We had to shut everything down, cool the line, and replace it with a new spiral-wound gasket. Took us the better part of a shift to get it buttoned back up and re-test. Anyone have a go-to brand for high-pressure steam gaskets they swear by?

Spiral-wound gaskets are solid for that pressure. We've had good luck with the Garlock Blue-Gard ones on our high-temp lines, they seem to last.

Aren't those more for steam than high temp process lines?

Remember when they used asbestos for everything? Wild to think about now.
