Picked Catan over Ticket to Ride for game night last week
Everyone was pushing for Ticket to Ride since it's faster, but I stuck with Catan and we played for 3 hours. Was I the only one who thinks the extra time makes it more satisfying?

I still remember that three hour Catan game where my buddy spent 45 minutes trying to trade for a single brick while the rest of us watched him spiral." The longer games always feel more like an epic journey than just a quick score.

Oh man, I actually think the long Catan games test your social endurance more than your strategy skills. Like, the real challenge is keeping everyone entertained and not salty through the third hour of negotiation. Maybe it's just me but the people who can still laugh and trade after two hours are the ones who actually win at game night.

Last time I played Catan it went 2 hours and 45 minutes and by the end three people were just handing cards to the winner because nobody wanted to do another round of trading. I get why people like the long haul but for me Ticket to Ride hits that sweet spot where you feel like you did something strategic without needing to schedule your whole evening around it. Plus with Ticket you can actually have a conversation while playing instead of staring at the board trying to figure out if someone is lying about not having wheat. I think the shorter games force you to make faster decisions and that makes them more exciting to me.
