Found a hairline crack in my anvil after moving my shop to Boise

It was fine three months ago, but now I'm worried it could split under a heavy hammer. Has anyone had luck welding a cast steel anvil, or is it time to start saving?

Man, that is a gut punch to find after a big move. I've heard welding cast steel is a real gamble because it can mess with the temper. A lot of guys will just grind the crack into a smooth groove to stop it from spreading. Might be worth asking around the Boise area for a good blacksmith who can take a look at it.

Yeah, grinding it out sounds way smarter than trying to weld it.

Moving a shop can really shake things loose. Did the crack show up right after the move, or did you notice it later on? Grinding seems like the safe bet, but I'm curious if the crack runs deep into the body or if it's just on the face.
