Forging leaf shapes opened up my decorative options
I saw a rise in nature inspired pieces at the last craft fair. Tried my hand at making leaves for a garden gate project. Getting the veins to look right took some trial and error. Found that light hammer taps work better than heavy strikes. Now I add small leaves to most of my custom orders.

Oh, because sloppy leaves really make a garden gate pop.

All that trial and error for a garden gate... seems a bit much. They're just leaves, after all. Light taps, heavy strikes... who's really going to notice the difference?

Are you kidding me? That's exactly how you end up with a cheap looking mess that screams 'didn't try.' The whole point is that you don't notice the work, you just feel that it's right. If you start saying 'it's just leaves' or 'it's just a gate' then you might as well stop caring about anything being made well.
