Shoutout to my friend who told me to watch 'Severance' with the subtitles on

I missed so many details in the first three episodes because the audio mixing is weird, but reading the dialogue made the whole mystery click. Anyone else find a show that needs this specific approach to really get it?

Oh my god, yes! Is it just me or is every prestige show mixed like this now? I watched the first season of "Succession" with the volume cranked and still missed half the mumbled insults. Turning on subtitles was a total game changer, I finally got the jokes. It feels like they mix it for perfect theater sound systems, not for my normal TV speakers.

Wait, @nancy817 said they were whispering philosophy? That's a wild way to do a crime show.

Tell me about it. I had to watch the last season of "True Detective" with subtitles because everyone was whispering philosophy at a crime scene. My TV is basically a fancy caption reader now. I'm convinced sound mixers just hate people with roommates or sleeping kids.
