My buddy Carl said something about The Bear that totally flipped my view
I was at a cookout last Saturday and my friend Carl mentioned how The Bear is actually more about anxiety than cooking. He said the fast cuts and yelling remind him of his old kitchen job in Detroit. That comment made me rewatch the first season and I finally got why everyone's so tense. Has a show ever clicked for you after someone pointed out one small thing?

Carl sounds like one of those people who reads a lot into stuff. The show is about a chef taking over his brother's restaurant. It's stressful, sure, but it's not some deep meditation on anxiety. People treat every show like it's a hidden message now. Sometimes a show is just about people yelling in a kitchen.

Last week my coworker Dave spent 20 minutes explaining how the burnt pilot episode of some sci-fi show was actually a metaphor for the stages of grief. Dave, the show got cancelled after three episodes because the alien looked like a walking potato. People like Carl need to chill and just enjoy a show about a guy who can't stop dropping pans in a hot kitchen. Sometimes a stressed out chef yelling about raw chicken is just a stressed out chef yelling about raw chicken.
