That $80 Park Tool chain checker I bought was a waste after 3 uses
It slipped calibration after two chains and I could've just used a ruler for free, has anyone else found those things unreliable or did I just get a lemon?

Bought one once and my dog chewed it up before I even used it, @wendysanchez.

Right, @nancycooper, I feel your pain with the dog thing, but honestly this whole high end tool thing points to a bigger pattern I see everywhere. People buy the expensive version of something, never actually check if it works right, then blame the tool when it fails. It's like buying a fancy coffee machine and never cleaning the filter. I've noticed this with bike tools, kitchen gadgets, even lawn equipment. The plastic ruler never cheats, but folks get sold on the name brand promise and forget the basics. So yeah, that hex key adjustment is probably key, but if a ruler is free and works, why not just stick with that?

Did you actually check the calibration before you used it or just assume it was good out of the box? Park Tool stuff usually needs a tiny hex key adjustment right away, especially after the first couple chains. A ruler is free forever and never lies, so I wonder why people keep buying these when a cheap plastic version works just as well.
