Pro tip: a $4 digital tire gauge changed how I set up customer bikes

I used to trust the shop floor pump gauge for a year straight, then a guy brought in his race bike complaining about vague cornering. Turns out my gauge was reading 12 psi high the whole time. Picked up a cheap digital gauge at the hardware store in Akron, checked every bike that came through last week, and the difference in feel is obvious. Anyone else ever find their shop pump was way off, or am I the only one who trusted that needle for way too long?

Honestly, same thing happened to me but backwards. My shop gauge read low by about 8 psi, so I was overinflating everything for months. Riders kept saying the tires felt harsh and sketchy in the wet. Grabbed a cheap digital one from a gas station near my place and it was a total eye opener. Now I check the pump gauge against the digital one every month, it's way too easy to just trust that needle.
