Saw a guy at the Denver airport charging his phone with a crank radio, and now it's my new bedtime thing
I was waiting on a delayed flight at DIA and this older dude was just slowly cranking a little radio to top off his phone, totally calm while everyone else fought over the two working outlets. I started doing it on my nightstand before bed, 10 slow cranks and no doom scrolling, and I'm out in like 5 minutes. Has anyone else found a dumb little ritual like this that knocks you out faster than a screen?
The "10 slow cranks" part is what got me, because it's not really about the radio at all, it's that your hands have something boring to do so your brain stops spinning. I do the same thing with a deck of cards, just shuffling over and over without playing any game, and it's wild how fast my eyes get heavy. There's something about a slow repeat motion that tricks your body into thinking the day is officially over. Screens do the opposite, they keep feeding your head new stuff so you never get that shutdown signal. I've started leaving my phone across the room and grabbing the cards instead, and I'm asleep way quicker than I ever was scrolling. The airport guy was onto something and probably didn't even know it.
