Dropped $180 on a used offset smoker off Facebook and the firebox is paper thin
Bought a cheap used offset off Marketplace for $180 thinking I could learn stick burning without dropping $1,500 on a real pit. First cook went fine but the second time I loaded it up the firebox got so hot it warped and now there's a gap where smoke pours out the seam. Do I try patching it with high temp RTV or just cut my losses and keep saving for something with 1/4 inch steel?
Sounds like my first smoker, which was basically a tin can that I loved way too much. Patching it with RTV might get you through a cook or two but that metal already gave up, it'll just warp somewhere else next time. Been there with the cheap pit life and honestly saving for 1/4 inch steel is the move, you'll spend more on patches and foil than you would just waiting.
