Appreciation post: the guy who brought his own hair clippings in a ziplock bag
Had a guy walk into my shop on 5th Street about 3 weeks ago, plop a ziplock bag full of his own hair on the counter, and ask me to "match the color" for his next cut. I just stared at it for a second and asked if he wanted me to frame it or cut it, and he said "cut it, I want the sides to look like this exact brown." Took me a beat to explain that his hair color is already on his head and the bag wasn't gonna help me blend anything. He laughed, sat down, and honestly tipped me $20 for the confusion. Anyone else get customers who bring props to a haircut?
So the guy carries a bag of his own hair around and we're supposed to act like this is some big deal? Sounds like he was just messing with you and it worked, because you spent time explaining why a bag of dead hair can't tell you his color. The $20 tip kind of proves it, he knew the whole thing was dumb and paid you for playing along. People bring weird stuff into shops all the time, a ziplock of hair is odd but it's not like he walked in with a live chicken or something. I'd file this under funny story you tell at the bar, not some wild customer trend worth a whole post.
Yeah the $20 tip is the giveaway, he knew it was a bit and you were a good sport about it. Had a dude bring in a polaroid of his old haircut once and swear it would help me match the shade, like bro that's a photo not a color code. You got paid to be in his little comedy sketch, that's a win.
