That 2am sourdough starter explosion on my kitchen ceiling

Last Tuesday I forgot to loosen the lid on my 3 week old starter before bed and woke up to sticky dough dripping from the light fixture, so has anyone else had to explain fermented flour paste to a landlord?

Three weeks in and my kitchen still smells like a brewery that gave up.

Wore my hazmat energy for a full week straight, thought the sour mash smell was just part of my personality now. Even my dog refuses to sit in the kitchen, and that little guy eats garbage out of the alley. I tried every trick online, baking soda bowls, vinegar sprays, even lit a dozen scented candles all at once. It just mixes with the yeast funk and makes it smell like a fruity basement. Had to deep clean every single cabinet and pull out the fridge just to find a spilled jar of old starter that had grown its own little ecosystem. Honestly at this point I'm just leaning into it and telling guests it's a rustic sourdough aroma, cheaper than a brewery tour.
