My sourdough starter went completely flat right before a big bake for my sister's wedding in Denver.
I panicked and fed it a tablespoon of rye flour I had in the back of the pantry, and after 4 hours it came back to life and the loaves turned out perfect, so has anyone else had to do an emergency starter rescue like that?

Yeah, that "emergency starter rescue" with rye flour saved my butt last winter too.

Seriously, does rye flour just have more of those tough wild yeasts that handle the cold better? It makes sense if the local grain is already used to rough weather. That stuff is a real winter lifesaver.
