My cake layers took forever to cool and I almost missed the frosting deadline

I baked a birthday cake yesterday but the layers were still warm after two hours. Had to rush the frosting and it looked messy. How do you speed up cooling without wrecking the texture?

Box fans are cheaper than you think. Set one up across the room from your cake layers. The moving air pulls moisture away without drying the crumb. I do this with my dense carrot cakes and they cool in half an hour. Just make sure the fan isn't too close or it'll form a skin. Works better than stuffing them in the fridge where they sweat.

Half an hour cooling? @kellys78, you saved my cake last week.

Two hours is nothing, Kelly's fan trick sounds like overkill.
