Wasted $60 on that fancy bread lame from Instagram

Thought paying extra for a curved blade would give me perfect ear every time on my sourdough. Three weeks of flat loaves later I grabbed my old razor blade and got better results. Anyone else find that cheaper gear works just as good?

Did you see that video from The Sourdough Guy where he tested a $8 razor scraper against a $70 lame? He got way better results from the cheap one too. I think a lot of it is just hype from influencers who get paid to push the fancy stuff. Having a sharp blade that you can angle right matters way more than the handle it's stuck in. What kind of razor blade worked best for you?

The cheap one works fine for me too but honestly I think a lot of it comes down to how you hold it and your scoring technique. I've tried both and the expensive lame just feels nicer in my hand but the results are pretty much the same if you know what you're doing.
