My finch feeder sat empty for 6 weeks until I put it on the south side of the house last Tuesday

I have a nyjer feeder that I kept hanging off the back porch railing. Nothing touched it for a month and a half. Moved it over next to the fence where the sun hits from 10am to 2pm and got three goldfinches within the same day. Anyone else had a weird simple location change open things up?

Used to think birds just didn't care where feeders were, but moving mine from the shade to where the morning sun hits it was like flipping a switch, lol. Total game changer for me too.

Wait, you're telling me the actual sunlight made a difference? That's wild. I always figured birds just showed up wherever the food was, sun or no sun. Maybe they get cold in the morning and want that warm spot first thing? Sounds like I gotta try this out, my feeder is tucked under the eaves and it's dead most days. Never once thought about the temperature of the spot being a factor, that's like a whole new layer to this hobby.

Wait, so you’re telling me birds are basically solar-powered now, @ryantorres?
