I finally caved and bought a heated birdbath for the winter

It was about $80, and I was worried it would be a waste, but seeing a dozen juncos and a cardinal bathing in 20-degree weather this morning made it worth every penny. Anyone else try something similar to keep the birds around when it's freezing?

Putting out a shallow dish is smart. My neighbor tried that once and a squirrel fell in.

It's also a lifesaver for bees needing a drink on warmer winter days.
